Single-Fold Bias Tape, Blue Gingham
Single-Fold Bias Tape
"Bias tape" isn't sticky — it's simply a folded strip of fabric that has many uses in sewing, repair, and fiber arts. Bias tape starts as regular fabric (in this case, a 65% poly / 35% cotton blend), which is cut at a 45 degree angle to the grain. Cutting 'on the bias' makes the fabric stretchy and allows it to drape more freely. Then, the fabric strips are folded into thinner strips, hiding some or all of the raw edges.
Single-fold bias tape actually has two creases (sorry, we didn't invent this terminology!) This is because the folding happens in one step, during which both edges are folded in toward the center of the fabric strip. This results in a neat and clean appearance on the side without flaps, which becomes the visible edge on your finished work.
This package of bias tape measures 0.5" wide by three yards long. (The width is measured in the tape's finished, folded state—it will of course be wider if you unfold it.)
